By Antiquity the architecture of ancient Greece and Rome is meant.
The ancient Greek architecture which arose on Aegean Sea islands was so harmonious and complete, that subsequently it was adopted by other famous styles such as Renaissance, Classicism, Neoclassicism as the primary source, as a certain standard for imitation.
In comparison with Egyptians ancient Greeks were not so religious and dogmatic. They were a talented and cheerful nation. They also believed in different gods, but unlike Egyptian ones, their gods were strongly humanized, that is they inherited all human vices and virtues: pride, courage together with greed, envy, gluttony and so forth.
In relation to Greek style it is important to note the spreading of geometry as a science, setting up proportions as a measure of harmony. The greatest achievement of the Greek architects was the "invention" of new system of artistic decoration involving columns and various arch designs. The fines examples are Parthenon, Ionian and Corinthian style.
Ancient Romans, being disciples of Greeks, not only have completely apprehended their heritage, but also have developed in a new style by adding Tuscan and Composite style.
The biggest achievement of Romans is the combination of the Greek style with Italian arches. Romans also experimented with such tremendous and beautiful structures as Coliseum and its dome. Nowadays similar dome structures are used in many Football and baseball stadiums.
